This week we take a look at a local fallacy we’ve encountered a whole lot lately – tone policing. Is it OK to argue that someone is wrong simply because you don’t like their tone? Does swearing actually hurt someone’s argument? Is tone policing an ad hominem argument? Tone policing seems to be the last resort of someone who is losing an argument so they resort to attacking someone’s tone rather than their actual argument. Just remember that the next time someone calls you an asshole for stating there is no god.
Bde Maka Ska means ‘White Earth Lake” or “White Shore Lake”
Basically, it’s the lake with white sand beaches.
Amusingly, the original name for Lake Harriet is Bde Uman, and it literally means “The Other Lake.”
Which is pretty much what people call Lake Harriet anyway.
Lake of the Isles is Witi Topa (four islands) and Lake Minnetonka is Bde La Thanka (Big Talking Lake).
