  • Episode 257 – Outdoor Alien Boners

Outdoor Alien BonersThis week’s episode is another round of geeky boners!  Molly basically talks about how much she likes to be outside.  Tim talks about watching a “new” TV show even though it isn’t actually new.  Nick talks about playing a “new” video game even though it isn’t new either.  Basically, the three of us are playing catch-up on cool stuff we didn’t get to the first time around.  Except for Molly.  She’s just happy she gets to go outside.

  • Episode 256 – Wonder Woman

Wonder WomanThis week, we talk about the newest installment in the DC Cinematic Universe – Wonder Woman!  As with most films, we are going to spoil the shit out of it so if you haven’t seen it yet, listen no further!  One of the hardest things about a property like Wonder Woman is all the expectations people carry with the character and your gentle hosts are no different.  In the end, we all concluded this is a good film that also has a great deal of cultural importance.  Also, Tim takes an opportunity to call out AMC for some shitty customer service, we thank some brand new Patreon supporters, and we say nice things about the post office!

  • Episode 255 – Murmurs of Doubt

perf6.690x9.610.inddFor this week’s episode, we got a sneak preview at the new graphic novella, Murmurs of Doubt, by writer/artists Rebecca Fox.  The book will be out the middle of June and available for purchase via Rebecca’s web page and also on Amazon.  It is twelve explorations of the moment when someone first experiences that moment of doubt that could lead to the loss of faith.  All three of us found different stories that really connected with who we are and with our own journeys to atheism.  We were very excited to get an advanced look at this book and recommend it highly.  Rebecca is a long time listener so you should definitely show some solidarity and take a look at her work!

  • Episode 254 – Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2

landscape_xlarge-2This week we take a look at the newest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2!  While hate to be an echo chamber, we end up being one as we talk about how much we enjoyed the film.  So if you hated the movie, this podcast will likely annoy the hell out of you.  Or it will convince you why you are wrong.  Either way, those of you who haven’t seen it yet will want to avoid this podcast because we spoil the shit out of it (TM).  We are Groot.

  • Episode 253 – Heartland Institute Bullshit

whyscientists2dWebThis week, we are joined by bio anthropologist Greg Laden to talk about “Why Scientists Disagree About Global Warming,” a bullshit book distributed by the Heartland Institute to science teachers.  Being actually qualified to speak on the topic of climate change, Greg helps us unpack why the book is bullshit as well as why the Heartland Institute wasted money by distributing the book in the first place.  He also has a blog called “Greg Laden’s Blog” and he explains why it’s called that.

  • Episode 252 – Breath of the Wild

zelda-breath-of-the-wild-walkthrough-guide-tips-4857-148829841233Hey – in case you haven’t heard, there is a new Nintendo console.  In case you also haven’t heard, a new Legend of Zelda title was released at the same time as the console.  All three of us have been playing Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild a lot.  So much, in fact, that it is hard to believe we’ve actually found enough time to record and post episodes of our podcast.  We actually did, though, and here’s an episode about Breath of the Wild.  Spoiler alert: it’s awesome. Also, we have the first listener responses to our newest batch of five questions!

  • Episode 251 – Shut up Betty, I’m Trying to Pray to Mecca

14924-200This week our guest is Dave Meyers, who won a guest spot on our podcast through a generous donation to Fearless Comedy during Die Laughing.  Dave wanted to talk to us about his belief that it takes a lot of strength to have faith in god.  We don’t all agree but we had a really interesting conversation about our differences.  We then engage in mutual round of five questions because he brought some for us and we already had some for him.  There wasn’t enough time for all ten so we came up with a compromise.

  • Episode 250 – X-Men Fools Gold

hero_5This week, we take a look at the controversy surrounding the recent X-Men: Gold #1 comic.  Muslim artist Ardian Syaf stirred up a lot of anger after including some arguably anti-semitic “easter eggs” in his drawings.  To understand what is going on, it helps to know that the messages were in support of a movement against recently ousted Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama.  He was charged with blasphemy for criticizing the Koran (although it would appear he didn’t actually do that but we’ll get into that during the podcast).  We talk about the whole mess with our guest, Marvel super fan Mark Sherman.  Mark also becomes the first guest to answer our new five questions!

For more, here’s an article from Bleeding Cool with several relevant links.

Also interesting is this piece by G. Willow Wilson, who is also a Muslim.

And hey – here’s one of the panels in question.

  • Episode 248 – Logan

20161021_n_nerdistnews_logantrailer_1x1This week, we take a look at the latest installment in the X-movie franchise, Logan. This partial adaptation of the Old Man Logan storyline from the comics is reported to be Hugh Jackman’s final appearance as Wolverine and before you listen to the episode, we will warn you that we are going to spoil the shit out of the film. If you don’t want to know what happens, there are other fine episodes in which we don’t discuss this film and, as a result, we don’t spoil any of it.  Check those out.  After discussing our thoughts on the movie, we really for sure this time read off the last of the answers to our old five questions.  Next week, we debut a new five questions so you can look forward to that!
