  • Episode 196 – Love and Marriage

12961564_10207513512109199_2359234324343271175_nThis week we were recording live from Die Laughing, a 50 hour comedy marathon.  Immediately prior to this episode, the three of us were privileged to participate in a unique improvised wedding ceremony as three of seven officiants. It was extremely silly.  We were then joined by the bride, regular guest Melissa Kaercher and her new husband, Fes.  We spend most of the episode talking about the wedding, which will probably make you wish you were there.

    Congratulations, Melissa and Fes!

  • Upcoming live shows!

GWGIf you are a fan of our live shows, we have three of them coming up in April!

The first two will be at Die Laughing, a 50 hour comedy marathon produced by Fearless Comedy.  It is their annual fundraiser and as partners, we are happy to help them raise money for their production budget again this year.

Both of our live podcasts will be on Saturday, April 9th.  The first will be at 4:00 PM and will feature Melissa Kaercher (recently heard on episode 185 – GMOs) and her new husband Fes Works.  By new, we mean that at 3:30, they will be married live on stage as part of the comedy marathon in an improvised wedding ceremony!

The second podcast will be at 9:00 PM on the 9th and will feature Twin Cities actor, designer, writer, and director Ariel Leaf!

Both episodes will be recorded live and you can stream them at the Die Laughing web site.

In addition to recording the episodes, we are doing a Die Laughing fundraiser challenge! If we can raise $1000 for Fearless Comedy, the three of us will go on a “Real” Ghost Hunting tour!  Previously, we’ve had to go to a ceremony at Grace Church in Eden Prairie and had our personalities tested at a Scientology center.

You can donate at any time (a donation button is on the Die Laughing website right now).  Just make sure you mention that this is a donation for the Geeks Without God challenge in the notes field.

Finally, we are recording our 200th episode LIVE at the Bryant Lake Bowl on April 16th at 10:00 PM.  Our guests are radio personality Barb Abney and musician Jeremy Messersmith.  We’ll also have a bunch of other special guests and cool announcements!  You can buy tickets online through the Bryant Lake Bowl website or reserve them by calling 612-825-8949.

  • Episode 185 – GMOs

635831413901537734-183607684_gmo-1This week, we welcome back our first ever guest, Melissa Kaercher!  Melissa gets together to talk with us about GMO crops, Monsanto, pesticides, and organic foods.  We navigate the tricky waters of not liking Monsanto while recognizing that we should hate them for stuff they actually DO rather than stuff we THINK they do.  It’s a lot to cram into a 30ish minute podcast but we do our best!

Disclaimer: While Melissa works for General Mills, she is not appearing on the podcast as a representative of the company and her opinions are her own.  Please don’t sue us.

  • Episode 53 – Arm Rest Etiquette

Well, we managed to complete a full year of episodes without missing a single week.  This episode marks the beginning of our second year.  We celebrated our anniversary by bringing back our first guest, Melissa Kaercher and recording the show live at CONvergence 2013.  A packed room of geeks joined us as we talked about being raised in and out of faith and how that impacts our view of the world now.  Melissa also asked us five questions, one of which led to an extensive discussion about the proper etiquette of arm rest usage on airplanes and in movie theatres.

Thanks to all of our listeners for a great first year!  We can’t wait for what will happen in year two!

  • CONvergence is here!

Just in case you have missed the two podcasts in which we talked about CONvergence, we wanted to offer a quick rundown on places you can see all of us at the convention!

All three of us will be in the Opening Ceremonies Sketch at 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 4th.  Opening ceremonies takes place on Main Stage so we’ve hit the BIG TIME!

On Friday at 3:30, the three of us will be improvising conspiracy theories with our friend Jeremy Stomberg on It’s a CONspiracy!  That will be in Atrium 4.

At 8:00 PM on Friday, we’ll be hosting the Fearless Comedy Room in room 224!  Stop in and try to win the Left Behind Board game, enjoy a specially selected Geeks Without God alcoholic treat and pledge to support Fearless Comedy Productions!

And on Saturday at 5:00, we’ll be celebrating our one year anniversary by recording two live podcasts!  The first will be with our innauguarl guest, Melissa Kaercher and the second will be with noted atheist blogger PZ Myers!

Of course all three of us will also be a part of Vilification Tennis on the Main Stage at 10:00 PM Saturday.  That is, of course, a very R rated show so if that isn’t your thing, we have no idea why you listen to our podcast!

We’re also doing many other panels separately so if you want to know what we’re up to, here are links to Molly, Nick and Tim’s schedules!

We hope to see you at the con!

  • Sharing the Love

Well, it’s been a fun first week here at Geeks Without God.  We’re very pleased at the number of people who have given our little project a try and we hope you come back and tell your friends about us.  We want to give a shout out to some folks who mentioned us this week.

While you all probably know who PZ Myers is, we’d like to thank him for mentioning us in his Blog about CONvergence. It was most unexpected and it made Tim get off his ass and post the podcast a few days earlier than originally planned.

Melissa Kaercher, our first guest, has a nice write up on CONvergence that mentions us.  She also gave us our own blog entry!  Sweet!

And our friends over at the Appropros of Nothing Podcast gave us a shout out so we are shouting back.  Thanks guys!
