  • Episode 222 – Home Schooling

121304-119596This week, we are joined by Vanessa and Jeremy Messersmith to talk about their experiences with Christian home schooling.  Both of them grew up in fairly conservative Christian households and spent most of their lives being home schooled.  The three of us tried to toss our pre-conceived notions of home schooling out the window but we discovered that most of those pre-conceived notions were basically spot on.  So that’s depressing.  Vanessa also gets a crack at our five questions!

  • Episode 201 – Contemporary Christian Music

Recorded live at the Bryant Lake Bowl for our 200th episode celebration, we are joined once again by Barb Abney and Jeremy Messersmith!  Jeremy was home schooled and has a lot of experience with Contemporary Christian Music so he brought in some samples for all of us to “enjoy”.  We get clips from Amy Grant, The Newsboys (who we discussed when we watched God’s Not Dead), and more!  Listen to our horrified responses to this amazing musical salute to Jesus.  To help cleanse our palette, Jeremy then performed his song “The Return of Jesus Christ” for the first time EVER! It was a whole lot of fun – or at least as fun as it can be when you are listening to Contemporary Christian Music.

  • Episode 200 – The Music of our Lives

Our fabled 200th episode has arrived!  Recorded live on stage at the Bryant Lake Bowl, we are joined by Barb Abney and Jeremy Messersmith to talk about the mix tapes of our lives.  All five of us go through a list of songs that sort of tell a story about who we are.  There’s a lot of music and we probably should have put together playlists that we could link to but at this point, you should probably just go look all of this music up for yourself.  Unless you already own it.  Then good for you!

Technical note: Molly’s microphone was going in and out during the recording of this episode so she can be a little difficult to hear.  For those of you who know Molly, it is definitely not because she is too quiet.

We also launched our Patreon campaign the day we recorded this episode!

  • Upcoming live shows!

GWGIf you are a fan of our live shows, we have three of them coming up in April!

The first two will be at Die Laughing, a 50 hour comedy marathon produced by Fearless Comedy.  It is their annual fundraiser and as partners, we are happy to help them raise money for their production budget again this year.

Both of our live podcasts will be on Saturday, April 9th.  The first will be at 4:00 PM and will feature Melissa Kaercher (recently heard on episode 185 – GMOs) and her new husband Fes Works.  By new, we mean that at 3:30, they will be married live on stage as part of the comedy marathon in an improvised wedding ceremony!

The second podcast will be at 9:00 PM on the 9th and will feature Twin Cities actor, designer, writer, and director Ariel Leaf!

Both episodes will be recorded live and you can stream them at the Die Laughing web site.

In addition to recording the episodes, we are doing a Die Laughing fundraiser challenge! If we can raise $1000 for Fearless Comedy, the three of us will go on a “Real” Ghost Hunting tour!  Previously, we’ve had to go to a ceremony at Grace Church in Eden Prairie and had our personalities tested at a Scientology center.

You can donate at any time (a donation button is on the Die Laughing website right now).  Just make sure you mention that this is a donation for the Geeks Without God challenge in the notes field.
