  • Episode 118 – Doctor Who Season 8

peter-capaldi-doctor-who-fanartThis week, we decided to have a discussion about the new incarnation of The Doctor – Peter Capaldi.  While our opinions on the series as a whole are decidedly mixed, we all have positive opinions about Capaldi.  We talk about Clara, the Victorian Scooby Gang, and Steven Moffat.  We also spend a little while on the 50th anniversary special and the War Doctor.  Given we are not super fans, we probably get some facts wrong.  Feel free to correct us in the comments!

  • Episode 71 – Growing up Without God

This week, we are joined by Tim’s son Alex.  Alex is 14 years old and has been an atheist since he was nine.  Or earlier.  He doesn’t really remember.  We talked to Alex about why he doesn’t believe in god and what impact that has on his day to day life.  He also had some very good thoughts on why religion doesn’t work for him. We also got into some geeky topics like The Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy because he’s his father’s son.

  • Episode 39 – Wrath of Cons!

It’s been just a few short weeks since Matt Savelkoul joined us to talk about Dr. Who.  We brought him back because we have some convention appearances coming up and Matt has been to a bunch of them.  In one of our longer episodes, we spend a great deal of time talking about conventions geeky and skeptical and Matt apologizes for something that Tim doesn’t think he should feel badly about.  We also give a brief preview of our upcoming appearance at the Skep-Tech conference in the Twin Cities.  Then, as a repeat guest, Matt gets to ask us five questions!  Make sure you listen to the end of the episode to learn how you can win a free copy of Atheist Voices of Minnesota.

  • Episode 36 – Creationist Science Fair

Our guest this week is Rob Callahan, writer and journalist.  He joins us to talk about his visit to a Creationist Science fair.  He tells us about the creationist scientific method (yes – there is one) and how well some of these kids did adhering to it.  He tells us about his experience coming out as an atheist in order to write his article about the fair as well.  Most people would probably be surprised to learn his coming out experience is fairly typical.  Of course, he also gets a crack at our five questions.  Enjoy!

And hey!  Some publisher out there should help Rob write about the Twin Cities Creation Science Association!  Help a writer out!

  • Episode 34 – Who’s an Atheist?

This week we are joined by guest Matt Savelkoul, who is quite the expert on Doctor Who.  We begin by discussing his journey to atheism but then we get to the important question – is The Doctor an atheist? Or, rather: Does god exist in the Doctor Who universe?  Both Matt and Nick even prepared notes on the subject!  After spending far too little time on the subject of Who, Matt gets a crack at our five questions.
