  • Episode 145 – Scientology

scientologycultYou, dear listeners, paid for this episode!  As a result of your generous donations, all three of us visited the Scientology center in downtown St. Paul and took their personality test.  It might surprise you to learn that all three of us had problems only Scientology could solve!  Other than that, our experiences were surprisingly different.  We hope you enjoy our conversation about the world of Xenu!  By the way – if the three of us disappear in the near future, you’ll know why!

  • Episode 143 – Awkward Family Moments

DanceDevil2This week we have another episode recorded at Die Laughing.  After the Epic Lip Sync battle, we sat down with dancer, choreographer, and improvisor Erin Sheppard to talk about those awkward family moments that arise when you are an atheist.  We discuss things like being asked to lead prayer, talking about shows with religious themes and other awkward experiences that are common to being a non-believer in a world of believers.  Of course, Erin also gets a crack at our five questions!

  • Episode 142 – Getting Jobbed

job-changeThis week’s episode was recorded in a hotel room at Die Laughing.  We sat down with Josh Nite,  who has joined us before. Previously, we had talked about his now former job with Kingdom of Loathing.  This time, we talked with him about job transitions as all four of us have made some major career changes in the last few months.   Somehow, we manage to tie it back to atheism and the idea that you need to make the most of the life you have.  Josh also asks us three questions.  So he still owes us two.  We’ll probably have to invite him back.

  • Episode 141 – Blasphemous Comics

0_0_0_0_239_363_csupload_45417958This week’s episode was recorded live at Die Laughing 2015.  Our guest was ZM Thomas, author of The Bible 2, Abe the Aborted Fetus and the soon to be released Joseph Smith in Space.  We talked with him about his talent for blasphemous puns, his favorite subversive comics and more. We also managed to raise $1000 for Fearless Comedy Productions and will be going to Scientology camp!

  • Episode 140 – Pratfalls of Atheism

4b69d1f36462257020a88d256eebfa88This week’s episode was recorded live at Die Laughing 2015!  We sat down with Levi Weinhagen, who is something of a podcasting expert.  His current slate includes Pratfalls of Parenting, Regret Labs, and Reason Gone Mad.  He is also one of the minds behind the spectacularly funny Comedy Suitcase, a company devoted to making smart comedy that is accessible to all ages.  We talk with Levi about his podcasts and then get into the meat of our conversation – the challenges of being out as an atheist.  We also make a lot of inappropriate jokes about Bill Cosby.

  • Geeks Without God at Die Laughing

    0001069793_10Hey Everyone-

Die Laughing is this weekend and our Geeks Without God schedule is all set to go!  All times are Central Standard Time.  You can come out to see us at the DoubleTree in Bloomington or you can stream us online!

At 12:00 noon, we will be talking with comedian, podcaster, and writer Levi Weinhagen.  We’ll be talking with him about the baggage that comes with identifying as an atheist.

At 9:0o PM, we will have Comic book writer Z.M. Thomas, writer of “The Bible 2″ and “Abe the Aborted Fetus.”  He will talk to us about his work and about a new project coming out soon!

Remember, if we can raise $1000 by the end of our 9:00 podcast, the three of us will go to a Scientology center and be audited.  We will then record a podcast about our experience so you can all share in our pain!

You can make an online contribution at dielaughingmarathon.com or in person at the event.

ALSO, the silent auction will feature a guest spot on our podcast!  If you’ve ever wanted to be a guest but we just haven’t gotten around to asking you, come out and bid!  Last year, a few out of town folks made bids by proxy so we’ll be happy to help with that.

  • Episode 137 – Die Laughing Preview

0001069793_10This week’s episode brings back guest Matt Allex from the Apropos of Nothing podcast.  Matt is one of our cohorts over at Fearless Comedy so he joined us to discuss the second annual installment of Die Laughing.  In addition to talking about all the cool stuff we’ll be doing at the event, we also announce this year’s fundraiser challenge and it is a doozy – if we can raise $1000 for Fearless, we’ll all get a Scientology audit!  Details are in the podcast but if you want to donate, links are below.

If you follow the link to Die Laughing, you will see a donate button at the top right hand of the page.  Donations are accepted from now through the end of the event.  If you want to donate to our challenge, make sure you put a comment in your donation that it is for the Geeks Without God Scientology challenge.

  • Episode 130 – Farewell 2014

Driving on an empty road towards the setting sun 2014The past year had it’s ups and downs and we spend this episode reviewing as many of them as we can remember.  We take a few moments to remember our good friend Bill Young, who passed away just a short while ago.  The year started out really well for all of us but we are kind of sputtering into 2015.  We also talk about our hopes for the new year.  And, of course, we get to read off five answers from one of our listeners.  Whether 2014 was a great year or a mixed bag for you, we look forward to another great podcasting year!

  • Episode 95 – The Soft Touch

1412712_10152041656681639_1502255680_oThis week’s episode was recorded over the long Die Laughing weekend so if your co-hosts sound a little tired, it’s because we’d gotten very little sleep.  In between live recordings with Patrick Bauer and Elizabeth Ess, we snuck up to Tim’s hotel room to record an episode with Ben San Del.  Ben is an atheist and he’ll sometimes talk about his beliefs in his comedy.  Other times, though, require the soft touch.  We talk with him about using a soft touch to get his audience thinking about what they blindly believe and possibly getting to think critically about other things they have accepted without question.

As promised, here is a link to Ben’s web site!

  • There Might Be Pain

We here at Geeks Without God have been partners with Fearless Comedy since their coming out party last January.

In April, Fearless is going to do something truly crazy – a 50 hour comedy marathon!  From April 4th – 6th, they will make comedy happen non-stop.  And we’ll be there to help.

We’ll be doing two live podcasts during the weekend.  The first will be on Friday, April 4th from 11:00Pm – Midnight.  Our scheduled guest is comedian Patrick Bauer.

The second podcast will be from 1:00AM – 2:00 AM on Sunday, April 6th.  Our scheduled guest is comedian Elizabeth Ess.

We hope you will join us for these events live or streaming on the web at the Die Laughing home page.  We also hope you will donate to Fearless Comedy.

To that end, we have created a challenge for ourselves.  Our goal is to make $666 during our two live appearances.  If we do, we’ll do something horrible.  We even made a video about it.  Check this out!

We can’t get the thing to embed so…shit.  The video is really funny but here’s the practical details:

If we raise $333 over our two shows, Nick and Tim will shave their heads.  That weekend.  You’ll be able to see them being bald for the rest of the show.

If we raise $666 over the weekend, we will go to Sunday services at Grace Megachurch in Eden Prairie and then record a podcast about our experience.  We will not attend the services as angry atheists.  We won’t wear buttons or T-shirts.  We will respectfully attend the service.

Here is your chance to make Geeks Without God go to church!  Please join us in April and be prepared to give generously.
