  • Episode 158 – Goodbye Buffalo

San-Francisco_Top-10For our second episode recorded live at CONvergence, we sat down with our good friend Rebecca Watson to talk about her move from Buffalo to San Francisco.  In case you’re wondering, she is pleased with the choice.  We only had about 25 minutes so we barely scratched the surface of the awesomeness of San Francisco.  Once we finished the with the San Francisco love fest, we gave Rebecca the first shot at answering our BRAND NEW five questions! What??? Something on Geeks Without God has changed?  Anyway, Rebecca is funny and charming and you should listen for those reasons alone.  The new questions are just a bonus.

  • Episode 157 – Evangelism and Death

jennifer_ouelletteIn the first of our flurry of podcasts recorded at CONvergence 2015, we hosted Guest of Honor Jennifer Ouellette!  Jennifer is a science author and blogger and we talked to her about being brought up in an evangelistic home.  We also talked about how her family processed her brother’s death and the differences between the atheist experience and the deeply religious experience of her parents.  It’s a three hanky Geeks Without God and that doesn’t happen very often!

Go check out her website and buy her books!

  • Episode 156 – Puppet Robot Scientists

23031_1_largeThis week, our guest is star of Mystery Science Theater 3000, Trace Beaulieu!  We get to talk to him about the origins of MST3K and his new series on Yahoo, Other Space.  He also talks a bit about Vermin, which is a project he is working on with Tim.  Look for Trace and Tim at CONvergence this weekend where they will be re-launching their Kickstarter. It launches this Saturday so help them out!

Find out more about Vermin at Verminshow.com!

  • Episode 154 – CONvergence 2015

Connie-as-Redshirt-web-290x300This week, we take a look at all the stuff we’ll be doing at CONvergence 2015 and boy, it’s a lot.  If you somehow miss us at the convention, it is because you are actively avoiding us.  We have a really packed schedule and we spend most of the episode telling you about what we have going on at the convention.  We also read five answers from a listener.  Sharp eared listeners might hear an edit and that’s only because there is one.  We aren’t going to tell you what we edited.  Please provide us your conspiracy theories in the comments!

Want to know our schedules?  We can do that!

    Here’s a schedule for Molly.

    Here’s one for Nick.

    And one for Tim.

  • Episode 108 – Atheist Comedians

imagesThis week we are joined by our good friend Joseph Scrimshaw.  Joseph is a professional comedian and we have noticed over the time we’ve been recording this podcast that there seem to be a large number of comedians who are atheists and agnostics.  While we completely fail to provide any data supporting this theory, we talk about it anyway.  We also talk about some religious comedians and how Tim has watched them and doesn’t think they are very funny.  As a repeat guest, Joseph also asks us five exciting and very important questions!  Please note there is a wonderful opportunity for some new fan art at the end of the episode.  Go to town people!

  • Episode 106 – Game of Thrones

iron_throne_by_twilight5694-d5a8hbj-e1357180993266The second episode recorded live at CONvergence 2014.  Our guest was Rebecca Watson, who joined us way back in Episode 4.  It may have taken us over 100 episodes to get her back but the wait was worth it as we try to cram as much Game of Thrones geekery into 30 minutes as we possibly can.  Because we talk books and TV series, it is fair to say that we don’t get very far.  Even so, a spoiler warning is certainly warranted.  Once we ran out of time to talk Game of Thrones, Rebecca had five questions for us to answer.  One of them made her giggle a lot.

  • Episode 105 – Jessica Fletcher is a Serial Killer

jessicafletcherToday’s episode was recorded live at CONvergence 2014.  We even got the audience to sing our theme song.  Our guest was Raychelle Burks, better known as Dr. Rubidium!  Ray is a chemist so we spent the entire episode talking about Chemistry!  Actually that was the plan.  We ended up spending quite a bit of time talking about “Murder, She Wrote.”  We did eventually get to Chemistry, though, so if that’s your thing, just hang in there.  Ray also got a crack at our five questions.

  • Episode 98 – CONvergence 2014

It’s a little early but we are all excited because we have had a look at our schedules for CONvergence and we want to talk about our plans for the convention.  While schedules are subject to change, this episode covers what we’re looking forward to at the con this year as well as some costume plans Nick and Molly are putting together.  We also spill some information about the live podcast we’ll be doing at the convention! If you aren’t going to CONvergence, we hope that you feel really bad about it after listening to this show!

  • Episode 55 – CONvergence Wrap-Up

1074728_10201522778977559_322258114_oWe had a great time at CONvergence 2013 and we wanted to take some time to tell some stories from the weekend.  If you check the show notes, you will find links to a lot of different panels you may have missed because you were doing other stuff at the convention or you didn’t actually go to the convention.  It was a great year for all of us.  We look forward to next year’s con and to another year of Geeks Without God!  We also look forward to your favorite CONvergence stories!  Please share in the comments! We also read off Robin Raianiemi’s answer to our five questions.  Her movie selection sounds positively awesome!

  • Episode 54 – Therefore Hitler

For the second of our live CONvergence reocordings, we were joined by PZ Myers from FreethoughtBlogs. PZ has been sporting a Geeks Without God sticker on his iPad case since last year’s convention and we were excited we could finally thank him for taking our sticker all over the world.  We talked with PZ about the evidence for evolution and how you can establish a beachhead with Creationists. PZ, of course, was also asked our five questions.  Hard to believe he was able to give us only one answer when we asked him about the stupidest thing anyone has ever said to him about his atheism.  We could probably do an entire podcast with PZ about that one question.  Perhaps someday we shall.
