Another installment of our geeky boners!  Molly geeks about the Renaissance Festival, Nick geeks about his new job and Tim geeks about Indiana Jones.  We talk about the odds of aliens visiting our planet vs. the odds that god exists.  Because we are geeks, we dis on George Lucas for a little while. Then we spend some time talking about the space program in the wake of Neil Armstrong’s death.  We also read the first listener set of answers to our five questions. Thanks to Dana Freiberg for submitting her answers!

Show notes below the fold:

Here’s a link so you can make a flat cap just like Molly.

If you want to buy Tim the Indiana Jones Blu-ray set (don’t – he already has it), you can do it here.

Tim talks about a Blog entry he made about the passing of Neil Armstrong.

Here’s some info on the false story that Darwin recanted on his deathbed.  Bullshit!

  1. Been loving the podcasts! One thing that I feel I have to bring up is one of your comments as your discussing space. I agree with you completely that we need to explore space and endeavor to move beyond our world. I just think it’s sad to call our planet a rock. We have a beautiful planet full of a wide variety of landscapes and geological formations without even talking about life. The amount of species that are known to science are still not even close to all of the life forms on this planet.

Just here in Minnesota you can find more than 300 birds that are pretty regular visitors. How many people even notice them? That’s not even thinking about all the insects, spiders, other arthropods, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and fish.

So I agree that looking outside our tiny speck of space dust is profoundly important, but there’s still the crazy amount of stuff we don’t know about our speck and it’s myriad forms.

    P.S. Happy Birthday, Tim!

  2. Thanks for your comments. I think the diversity of life on our planet is amazing. I refer to our planet as a rock simply to say that I think that space is filled with amazing things and I’d hate to believe that we will be confined to this tiny corner of it forever.

    And…you know…it’s mostly made of rock…

    Anyway, thanks for listening!

    -Tim
