Welcome to Geeks Without God!  Our first episode was recorded at CONvergence 2012 in front of a live audience.    Our first guest was Melissa Kaercher, who managed to sit on more panels than anyone at CONvergence ever has before.  We figure that had more than a little to do with why she said “yes” when we asked her to record with us.  The four of us try to talk about the religious themes in Prometheus but we are frequently distracted by all the related stupid stuff in the film about which we swear repeatedly.  We’re just trying to tell you that Tim swears all the time. We also spring five questions on Melissa and among other things, she suggests we all watch Bunraku.

A couple of shout outs:  Thanks to CONvergence for letting us record our first podcast at their convention, to Geoffrey Brown for helping Tim write our theme song, to Melissa for being our first guest, and to our nearly full audience at the convention.  We didn’t want to go to a panel at 9:30 in the morning.  We’re flattered you did.

Check out this video from Red Letter Media about Prometheus.

Here’s an article in which you can read about Ridley Scott’s ideas about the Aliens relationship to Jesus.

Also, Tim wants to note that both A.I. and Prometheus feature artifical life forms named David.  Spoooooooky!

  1. “The line that David speaks to the Engineer (which is from a longer sequence that didn’t make the final edit) is as follows:

    /ida hmanəm aɪ kja namṛtuh zdɛ:taha/…/ghʷɪvah-pjorn-ɪttham sas da:tṛ kredah/

A serviceable translation into English is:

‘This man is here because he does not want to die. He believes you can give him more life’.”
